En ze zijn twee niveaus hoger geslaagd dan de IB-er op de basisschool als advies had gegeven.<br><br><strong>Moeder 1:<\/strong> \u201cIk wilde laten weten dat hij vandaag geslaagd is voor zijn havo-diploma. Jij hebt hem een lifeline geboden toen hij op een dieptepunt van zijn schoolcarri\u00e8re zat. Sindsdien is hij alleen maar vooruitgegaan en is hij een goede leerling geworden die met plezier en succes leert. Nogmaals dank!\u201d<br><br><strong>Moeder 2:<\/strong> \u201cHi Wynanda, ik wilde je even laten weten dat hij is geslaagd. Hij heeft mooi zijn mavo-diploma behaald. Wat had de basisschool het mis. (&#8230;) Natuurlijk moest ik je dit laten weten, jij hebt daaraan bijgedragen \ud83d\ude4f\ud83c\udffc\u201d<br><br>Mijn bijdrage hieraan? De jongens hebben bij mij een Davis-dyslexietraject gevolgd, gericht op hun zelfvertrouwen en dyslexie. Ze zaten toen in groep 7 of 8. Naar school gaan was al jarenlang een worsteling. Dyslexie speelde hierin een grote rol en de school had hier geen passend antwoord op.<br><br>Ik herinner me nog de onmacht bij deze jongens en hun ouders. Het gevoel van: er zit meer in mij of mijn zoon, maar het komt er niet uit. Kinderen met dyslexie hebben het veel moeilijker in ons onderwijssysteem, dat sterk talig en lineair is ingericht.<br><br>Beelddenkende kinderen, met hun rijke voorstellingsvermogen en creativiteit, hebben het daardoor vaak extra lastig. Kinderen met dyslexie zijn vaak beelddenkers. De Davis-methode zet het beelddenken in als kracht.<br><br>Na een dyslexietraject met de Davis-methode laten de jongens weer een mooie groei zien. En belangrijker nog: <strong>ze gaan weer met meer plezier naar school<\/strong>. Maar de IB\u2019ers op hun scholen geloofden er nog steeds niet in dat ze naar een hoger niveau konden. Ze weigerden het advies aan te passen.<br><br>De middelbare school verschilt met de basisschool dat je meer ruimte en vrijheid hebt om te leren op een manier die beter bij je past. Op de middelbare school waar zij begonnen, werden verschillende niveaus aangeboden en was er ruimte om door te groeien.<br><br>Zo kregen deze jongens de kans om te laten zien wat er werkelijk in hen zat. And they passed two levels higher than the school counsellor at primary school had advised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mother 1:<\/strong> &#8220;I wanted to let you know that he passed his HAVO diploma today. You gave him a lifeline when he was at the lowest point of his school career. Since then he has only moved forward and become a good student who learns with enjoyment and success. Thank you again!&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mother 2:<\/strong> &#8220;Hi Wynanda, I wanted to let you know that he passed. He got his MAVO diploma. How wrong the primary school was. (\u2026) Of course I had to let you know, you contributed to this.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My contribution? The boys completed a Davis Mastery for Dyslexia programme with me, focused on their self-confidence and dyslexia. They were in Year 7 and 8 at the time. Going to school had been a struggle for years. Dyslexia played a major role, and school had no adequate answer for it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I still remember the sense of helplessness in these boys and their parents. That feeling of: there is more in me, or my son, but it&#8217;s not coming out. Children with dyslexia have a much harder time in our education system, which is strongly language-based and linear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Visual thinkers, with their rich imagination and creativity, often find this particularly difficult. Children with dyslexia are often visual thinkers. The Davis Method uses visual thinking as a strength.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After a Mastery for Dyslexia programme, the boys showed real growth again. And more importantly: t<strong>hey started going to school with more enjoyment<\/strong>. But the school counsellors still didn&#8217;t believe they could reach a higher level. They refused to adjust their recommendations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Secondary school differs from primary school in that you have more space and freedom to learn in a way that suits you better. At the secondary schools where they started, different levels were offered and there was room to grow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So these boys got the chance to show what was really in them. And in doing so, they proved the school counsellors wrong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/davismethod.com\/facilitator\/wynanda-pool\/\"><em>Wynanda Pool<\/em><br><\/a><em>Davis Counsellor<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p>A note on the Dutch school levels: HAVO and MAVO are secondary school qualifications.
